This Cosmic Chant was originally written by Guru Nanak (He Hari Sundara), the founder of the Sikh religion. The lyrics appear in Whispers From Eternity.
Yogananda mentions this song twice in his Autobiography of a Yogi: describing its powerful chanting in New York for one hour and twenty-five minutes (see above, in the Cosmic Chants preface) and also during the highly important Lake Shrine dedication: “The ceremonies were opened with singing of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by the audience of 1500 people, followed with chanting and singing of “O God Beautiful!” by 130 orange-robed men and women renunciates of the Self-Realization Order.” (Autobiography of a Yogi, 1951)
LYRICS:
O God beautiful, O God beautiful
To the serviceful Thou art service
To the lover Thou art love
To the sorrowful Thou art sympathy
To the Yogi Thou art bliss
O God beautiful, O God beautiful
O God beautiful, O God beautiful
At Thy feet oh I do bow
O God beautiful, O God beautiful
O God beautiful, O God beautiful
At Thy feet oh I do bow
O God beautiful, O God beautiful
O God beautiful, O God beautiful
In the forest Thou art green
In the mountain Thou art high
In the river Thou art restless
In the ocean Thou art grave
O God beautiful, O God beautiful.
