Both the words and melody of this song are usually accredited to Rabindranath Tagore. Yogananda, however, writes in his Autobiography of a Yogi that it is Tagore’s version of an ancient song. He says: “Inspired by these memories, I began to sing Tagore’s version of an old Bengali song, Light the Lamp of Thy Love. Bhola and I chanted joyously as we strolled over the Vidyalaya grounds.”
LYRICS:
In my house with Thine own hands
Light the lamp of Thy love.
Thy transmuting lamp entrancing
Wondrous are its rays.
Change my darkness to Thy light
And my evil into good.
Touch me but once and I will change
All my clay to Thy gold.
All the sense lamps that I did light
Blackened into worries.
Sitting at the door of my soul
Light Thy resurrecting lamp.
WHEN TO USE THIS SONG:
