Dear Kriyaban,
This is just for fun… it’s an Irish folklore song transformed into a special KRIYA-BLISS-SONG.
If you are into it, please sing along, feeling the Irish Kriya-vibe. Maybe it will even inspire your Kriyas.
Below you’ll find the lyrics. After that you will even find a spiritual interpretation of the words. “There is a method in my madness,” as Shakespeare said.
But most of all, please relax: it’s just to have a little Kriya-fun together. So get your voice started now… as here the Kriya-singalong starts:
LYRICS
In God’s inner city
Where the colors are pretty
I first set my eyes on the heavenly spine.
A bliss-current rising
A bliss-current falling,
Singing Heaven is getting alive, alive, oh!
REF: Alive, alive, oh, alive, alive, oh,
Singing Heaven is getting alive, alive, oh! |:2
The currents are flowing,
The chakras all glowing
The joy of communion I taste deep inside,
A bliss-current rising,
A bliss-current falling,
Singing Heaven is getting alive, alive, oh!
REF:
The deeper I’m going,
The more I’m dissolving
Alive to God’s Being without any form,
A bliss-current rising,
A bliss-current falling,
Singing Heaven is getting alive, alive, oh!

Interpretation
“God’s inner city” = God’s dwelling-place within
Sri Yukteswar explains in the Autobiography of a Yogi:
“Outward longings drive us from the Eden within; they offer false pleasures which only impersonate soul-happiness. The lost paradise is quickly regained through divine meditation. As God is unanticipatory Ever-Newness, we never tire of Him. Can we be surfeited with bliss, delightfully varied throughout eternity?”
“Where the colors are pretty” = beautiful inner experiences
Yogananda explains in his Autobiography of a Yogi what happens when the yogi withdraws from outer sounds and impressions:
“Sound and sight come then indeed, but to worlds fairer than the banished Eden.”
“Heavenly spine” = the astral spine
Yogananda describes its heaven in his Autobiography of a Yogi:
“In deep meditation, the first experience of Spirit is on the altar of the spine, and then in the brain.”
“Chakras all glowing” = the chakras through Kriya Yoga are being lit from within.
In the Autobiography of a Yogi Sri Yukteswar writes:
“Man’s body is precious. It has the highest evolutionary value because of unique brain and spinal centers. These enable the advanced devotee to fully grasp and express the loftiest aspects of divinity.”
Yogananda adds:
“The Kriya Yogi mentally directs his life energy to revolve, upward and downward, around the six spinal centers (medullary, cervical, dorsal, lumbar, sacral, and coccygeal plexuses) which correspond to the twelve astral signs of the zodiac, the symbolic Cosmic Man. One-half minute of revolution of energy around the sensitive spinal cord of man effects subtle progress in his evolution; that half-minute of Kriya equals one year of natural spiritual unfoldment.”
“A bliss-current rising, a bliss-current falling” = blissful Kriya Yoga pranayama
In the Autobiography of a Yogi Yogananda explains:
“The advanced yogi, withholding all his mind, will, and feeling from false identification with bodily desires, uniting his mind with superconscious forces in the spinal shrines, thus lives in this world as God hath planned, not impelled by impulses from the past nor by new witlessnesses of fresh human motivations. Such a yogi receives fulfillment of his Supreme Desire, safe in the final haven of inexhaustibly blissful Spirit.”
In his Praecepta Lessons, Yogananda further describes that Kriya bliss:
“Those who conscientiously practice Kriya Yoga will never forsake this path; they will be held by their own Self-realization. The joy and realization experienced in the spine by the Kriya yogi is boundless. Every magnetization of the spine through the properly effected circulation of the cool and warm currents gives unending inward realizations and joy. This joy stands supreme in comparison with any material pleasure. You will find this superior happiness more tempting than the pleasures craved by instincts and emotions. The technique of Kriya Yoga will change your consciousness from identification with momentarily pleasure-giving bodily sensations to identification with the ever-new, ever-lasting joy of superconsciousness that reigns on the altar of the spine.
When you become accustomed to the coolness and warmth felt in Kriya you will feel great happiness. Your brain will be clear and calm because your entire consciousness will be centralized in the spine. There is nothing in the world to equal the soothing sensation of joy felt in the spine. But you must practice. God will not respond unless you apply the law. Kriya Yoga will take you to His favorite haunt–the spine.”
“Alive, alive, oh!” = being more alive than ever, inwardly
Yogananda describes it in his Autobiography of a Yogi:
“The flesh was as though dead, yet in my intense awareness I knew that never before had I been fully alive.”
