The modern Cosmic Chants book (YSS) states that this chant is an old Bengali song.
The lyrics and melody of this chant, in fact, are typical of devotional songs to the Guru in Bengal, quite similar, for example, to Sri Guru Carana Padma (first verse) by the 15th century Bengali saint Narottama Dasa. The Indian Scriptures say: “One moment in the company of a saint will be your raft over the ocean of delusion.”
LYRICS:
Think ye in thy heart of the lotus feet of thy Guru
If you want to cross the ocean of delusion.
Shaming the white lotus in purity, beyond duality,
Guru, image of Brahma, deliver us from delusion.
WHEN TO USE THIS SONG:
For invoking the Guru’s help for freedom from ignorance, sickness or failure.
SING ALONG:
Here is an old recording of this Cosmic Chant, sung by Swami Kriyananda in 1960.
